One of my favorite passages of Scripture is Ephesians chapters 5 and 6. These chapters are full of ways we should walk as Christians, that is to say, how we should behave as Christians. To me it gives practical applications and advice. I love that. I also love a list, so I’m going to list a few things below I see in these chapters.
- We are to walk in love. Verse 2 of chapter 5 tells us to walk in love like Christ loved us and gave Himself for us. We should show love, kindness, tenderness, and forgiveness. Easier said than done, but doable in the strength of our Lord, not in our own strength. For me, definitely requires much prayer…. especially when I am irritated with someone or when someone has hurt a loved one.
- We are to walk in light. Verses 8-12 of chapter 5 tell us that we are light in the Lord, and we are to find out what is acceptable to the Lord, having no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, not even to speak of those things done by them in darkness. Find out what is acceptable to Him…He tells us in His Word so let’s read it on a daily basis.
- We are to walk in wisdom, and we are to redeem the time. First of all, walking in wisdom is to understand what the will of the Lord is. We are to seek His will, His way, in every circumstance and situation in our life. We should be praying and seeking His will on a daily basis. Prayer requires discipline, requires us to sacrifice time to spend with Him, to make spending time alone with God a main priority. How many of us have gotten to know our spouse or best friend apart from spending time with them? I would dare say none of us. So it is with the Lord. He longs to reveal more of Himself to us and will do so as we spend more and more time with Him in prayer and reading His Word. He is a relational God. Secondly, regarding redeeming the time: we are given a limited time on this earth, and we should use it well, use it wisely, glorifying the Father and doing His will. (See verses 15-21 in chapter 5)
Chapter 6 tells us what the Lord expects in marriage, how parents and children are to behave, and how we should put on the full armor of God so we can be strong in His power and His might. Wonderful words that I encourage you to read and study.
I pray these words are a comfort and help to you as you seek to walk in His Way, as you seek to deepen and strengthen your relationship with the Lord. Jeremiah 29: 12-14 tells us that if we pray to Him, He will listen; If we seek Him with our whole heart, He will be found. Earnestly seek Him. You will never regret it.
Blessings to you,
Jackie
