We began a new ladies Bible study at church last week. I love Bible study so much! It’s so exciting to me. I love learning more about God’s Word. One of the lessons was about walking worthy of the calling we have received. I’ve been thinking about that the past few days and what it means to walk worthy. Below are some thoughts I have and some Scripture references that may help.
Our conduct, our behavior should be pleasing to the Lord. How we behave, how we speak, the things we do and participate in are things we should be concerned with. As a Christian, does our behavior, our walk, reflect the fact that we serve the Lord Jesus Christ, that we are believers in Christ…or does our behavior reflect the world? How should we walk?
Ephesians 4:1-2 (CSB) tells us we should walk with humility, gentleness, patience, and to bear with one another in love. Colossians 1:10 (CSB) tells us we should bear fruit in every good work and to grow in the knowledge of God. We are also to be fully pleasing to Him. Ephesians 5:15 (CSB) tells us to walk not as unwise people but as wise people, and to make most of the time. 1 John 2:6 (CSB) tells us to walk like He walked. These are just a few Scripture references that I found. There are many more if you do a word search on this subject. This is quite a list and seems daunting and overwhelming, I must say. The thing is, we can’t do this walking worthy thing on our own, in our own power. No way. We must walk worthy with His power and His strength. The question is how?
The more time we spend reading God’s Word, studying and meditating on His Word, spending time in prayer, seeking His will, asking for His guidance, attending church services, spending time around other believers…the easier it will be to walk worthy, to have conduct that is pleasing to Him, to make choices and decisions that honor Him.
We aren’t always going to make the best choices. There will, unfortunately, be times when we make mistakes, when we sin and fall short. We’re human, and in our flesh, we sometimes give in to temptations. The good news is we serve a gracious, loving God who is ready and willing to forgive us of our sins when we confess them before Him and repent, or turn away, from that behavior (See Psalm 86:5, 1 John 1:9). What a gracious God. What a loving God. I am so thankful He is so loving and patient with me!
As I continue along the way, I want to walk worthy before Him, and these verses have encouraged me. I hope they encourage you as well along your way. Keep walking…one day at a time.
To God be the glory and His blessings to you,
Jackie
