Surprises Along the Way

I love surprises. My husband is in the habit of bringing me some sort of surprise home quite often. Sometimes it is a pastry, a candy bar or favorite treat, or my favorite flowers he has picked from the trail where he runs. I love it. It’s pretty special. It touches my heart.

My favorite surprise, I must admit, comes from the Lord. When I am studying to teach Sunday School, a Bible study, or even writing this blog, I love when the Lord shows me something new and exciting in His Word, something I haven’t seen before. It thrills me to no end! I just love it and can’t wait to share it with someone.

Reading, studying, and meditating on God’s Word is an important part of our spiritual growth. It contains wisdom, comfort, encouragement, and it reveals to us who He is and His truth for our lives. It has the power to transform our life and shape our values according to His will for us and instructs us how to live daily as a child of God. When get in the habit of reading His Word on a daily basis, we draw closer to Him, our perspective aligns with His, it changes our heart, our attitude, strengthens our faith, and gives us peace even in the midst of difficult situations. His Word is so precious. Oh, so precious.

Psalm 119:105 tells us His Word is a lamp for our feet, a light for our path. Hebrews 4:12 tells us God’s Word is alive and active and goes on to tell us it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Psalm 119:15 tells us the psalmist meditates on His precepts and considers His ways. We won’t know His ways unless we are studying and reading His Word. I encourage you to look up these verses for yourself and read them in their entirety.

It is my prayer and desire that I fall more and more in love with reading and studying the Word of God. I want to learn more and more about my Creator, my Savior, and I want to keep drawing closer to Him. This is my prayer for you as well.

I hope you have a blessed week and a safe Memorial Day weekend. Let us be ever thankful for those who have served in our military and made the ultimate sacrifice and be thankful for those who continue to serve today.

Glory to God and His blessings to you,

Jackie
